Why should I put my group on HEdMap?
So that new or prospective home educators or home educators who have
relocated can easily find their local support networks and get in touch
with local people. Often concerns about being isolated are very
off-putting for people considering home education for the first time.
HEdMap is graphical, immediate and incredibly easy for people to use.
Is it safe to put this information on a public website?
HEdMap does not, of itself, facilitate public access to your group. We
don't include information about the times and frequency of group
meetings because HEdMap is intended to direct people to make contact via
your own existing local network. You should take the usual precautions
to satisfy yourself about all enquirers before you allow them access to
your local group.
To try to avoid spam harvesting, if you provide an email address, we'll
show email addresses in text only format, but we can't guarantee that's
spam-bot proof. So it might be best to use a disposable email address
rather than a valuable one and then you can change it if necessary. Just
don't forget to let the webmaster know so we can update the map!
What will you do with my group's information?
We'll place a clickable flag on the map at your group's location. The
flag will show your group's name, a clickable link to your group's
homepage or Yahoo Group and a contact email address if you provide one.
We won't use your info for any other purpose and we will destroy all
emails once the info has been put on the map. So don't forget to update
HEdMAP if your details change!
Who are the people behind HEdMap?
HEdMap is powered by Google. Your webmasters are Martin & Louisa, home
educating parents from South-Wales. We had the idea of creating HEdMap
after setting up something similar for our local area.
We offer it simply in the hope that it is useful.
It's a free service provided by home educators for home educators (and prospective home educators),
there's nothing to sign up for and no strings attached.
How do I get my group on the map?
To get your HE group on the map send an email to
webmaster(at)hedmap(dot)awardspace(dot)info with:
- The name of your group as you want it to appear.
- The full address and postcode of where you meet (This doesn't go on
the site, but we need the info to get the flag in the right place,
otherwise the "zoom" function and "get directions function" are
meaningless. If it really isn't possible or you're worried about this,
get in touch anyway and we can try to meet your specific needs.
- A webpage or yahoo home page or email address so that people can get
in touch.
